Registered Acupuncturists in NL have a minimum of 3 yrs of full time studies from an accredited program that includes a year of clinical internship (with over 2100 hours of needling experience). This internship helps to further develop our knowledge and skills of internal medicine as well as the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions with Acupuncture.
Upon completion of studies, NL Acupuncturists must also pass a comprehensive national board exam consisting of Traditional Chinese Medicine theory, diagnosis, needling skill and technique, to name a few. Only then is the designation R.Ac (Registered Acupuncturist) earned or legally permitted to be used.
While other professionals are permitted to perform acupuncture (albeit with much less training), only licensed R.Ac’s are permitted to bill insurance companies for Acupuncture services, as we are the only health professionals that meet the rigid standards set forth by our government.
Registered Acupuncturists in this province are legislated under the jurisdiction of the Minister of Health and the NL Council of Health Professionals, the same governing body responsible for Licensed Audiologists, Lab Technicians, and Speech Language Pathologists.
R.Ac’s are required to undergo continuous education and must adhere to standards of practice as set forth by the CTCMPANL in order to retain licensure and ensure public safety is utmost in practice .
When you choose Acupuncture provided by a Registered Acupuncturist, you are choosing therapy provided by fully qualified health care professionals equipped with the expertise to best help you achieve your health care goals.
